Dig In Reach Out was an outreach project stemming from our Dig In project with the Dig In Community Allotment in Stapleford.
The Dig In Reach Out project helped 10 community groups in Broxtowe to develop, plant and harvest their own productive gardens (for fruit and vegetables). Our team helped groups to plan and create their gardens and growing spaces with help from within the groups and the wider community. The project also identified members of the community who were willing and able to provide on-going advice to support the continuing success of the gardens and growing spaces after the project end, to encouraging continued use, and increasing local people’s access to healthy, home grown produce.
The project provided the opportunity of start-up grants for each group, as well as help and advice on accessing further funding and information on sources of free or low-cost materials. We also set up an e-mail network for the participants so they could offer mutual support.
