CEMEX Quarry Education

Groundwork Greater Nottingham ran an exciting environmental education project with children from the Upper School at College House Junior School, Beeston in 2010.

The project encouraged children to learn about the quarry industry which is right on their doorstep and provided ‘real-life’ examples for them to see. It raised awareness of the need for minerals and showed how the quarrying industry influences both the locality in the environment of the school and also the wider environment.

This programme was created in consultation with CEMEX’s local quarry manager and teachers at College House, and linked real life outdoor learning activities to the national curriculum, particularly Science, Geography and History.
